A Dreamy Wedding Editorial at Sunset Chapel | Grand Lake, Oklahoma

There’s something incredibly special about getting to photograph a wedding venue at the very beginning of its story.
Tucked away near Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Sunset Chapel is a beautiful new wedding venue surrounded by peaceful scenery, open skies, and a setting that feels completely removed from the busyness of everyday life. I recently had the opportunity to photograph a styled wedding shoot there alongside an incredible group of vendors, and I knew before the day was even over that this was a gallery I couldn’t wait to share.
This editorial was filled with everything I love photographing... beautiful details, soft light, intentional styling, genuine connection, and a setting that allowed every element to shine without feeling overdone.
A First Look at Sunset Chapel
One of my favorite things about Sunset Chapel is its simplicity. The chapel makes a statement without needing to compete with everything around it. Its clean architecture and peaceful surroundings create such a beautiful canvas for couples to make the space their own.
As a photographer, I’m always paying attention to how a venue photographs throughout the day—the direction of the light, the architecture, the backgrounds available for portraits, and all of those little spaces that can become part of a couple’s story.
Sunset Chapel gave us so much to work with.
There were beautiful wide compositions that showcased the venue itself, quiet spaces for more intimate portraits, and plenty of opportunities to play with movement and natural light. Instead of feeling like we needed to manufacture every photograph, the setting allowed us to slow down and let the images come together naturally.
Intentional Details With a Timeless Feel
The details throughout this styled shoot were beautiful without being overwhelming.
Everything felt thoughtfully chosen to complement the venue rather than compete with it. From the florals and bridal details to the smaller elements that brought the entire vision together, there was a softness and simplicity that photographed beautifully.
Details are one of my favorite parts of a wedding day to document because they tell a piece of the story that can easily be forgotten later.
The flowers you chose. The invitation your guests received in the mail. The rings you'll wear every day afterward. The fabric of your dress. The little pieces you spent months choosing that eventually become part of one much bigger memory.
Those details deserve to be remembered, too.
Creating From My Own Vantage Point
One of the things I enjoy most about styled shoots is seeing how differently each photographer can interpret the exact same setting.
We can all stand in the same place, photograph the same couple, and walk away with images that feel completely different.
For this shoot, I wanted to photograph Sunset Chapel from my own vantage point and stay true to the way I approach a real wedding day. I was drawn to the movement between poses, the way the couple interacted when they weren't thinking about the camera, the architecture surrounding them, and the little details that made the entire scene feel complete.
I love beautiful portraits, but I never want a gallery to feel like a collection of perfectly posed photographs.
I want there to be movement.
I want there to be laughter.
I want the quiet photographs alongside the joyful ones.
And most importantly, I want the people in front of my camera to still look and feel like themselves.

Photographs That Feel Like Your Wedding Day
Whether I'm photographing an editorial like this or walking into a real wedding day, my approach remains rooted in the same thing: preserving what it actually felt like to be there.
I'll give direction when it's needed so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or where to stand. But I'll also know when to step back and simply document what's unfolding.
Because some of my favorite photographs aren't necessarily the ones we planned.
They're the ones that happen in between.
A hand reaching for another. A dress moving in the wind. The expression on someone's face when they think no one is watching. The laughter immediately after the “perfect” portrait.
Those photographs become part of the story, too.
My style combines true-to-life color, timeless portraits, candid moments, thoughtful details, and gentle guidance throughout the day. And when I bring along my 35mm film camera, I love adding those imperfect, nostalgic frames that make a wedding gallery feel even more personal.
Ultimately, I want you to look through your photographs years from now and remember more than how everything looked.
I want you to remember how it felt.
Planning a Sunset Chapel Wedding?
Getting to photograph this editorial made me even more excited to see Sunset Chapel filled with real wedding days and real stories.
I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to create in this space and document my own perspective of such a beautiful new Oklahoma venue.
If you're planning your own wedding at Sunset Chapel, Grand Lake, or anywhere throughout Oklahoma, I'd love to hear about the two of you, what you're planning, and the moments you're most excited to experience.
Your wedding photographs should feel like you—beautiful, genuine, and filled with all the little moments that made the day yours.
And I'd be honored to preserve them.
