A Surprise Proposal at The Canopy in Tulsa
The Canopy was such a beautiful setting for their proposal. Located in downtown Tulsa near the Tulsa Arts District, it gave Cobe a private and romantic space for the big moment while still being close to some of my favorite areas for portraits afterward.
When Tristin walked in with Cobe and saw what was waiting for her, everything else seemed to disappear.
Cobe got down on one knee, Tristin realized exactly what was happening, and I got to photograph every second of it.
The surprise on her face. The laughter. The emotion. And, of course, the moment she said YES.
These are the photographs I love most... the ones that aren’t perfectly posed or planned because the emotions are completely real.
Celebrating With Their Favorite People
One of my favorite parts of this proposal was knowing how many people had helped make it happen.
After Tristin said yes, their family and friends were there to celebrate with them. There were hugs, congratulations, plenty of excitement, and that feeling of everyone finally being able to breathe because the secret was officially out.
It made the entire evening feel less like a photoshoot and more like I was simply there documenting something incredibly special for two people and the people who love them most.
That documentary approach is such a huge part of how I photograph weddings and engagements as an Oklahoma wedding photographer. I’ll always give direction when it’s needed, but some of the best photographs happen when I can simply step back and let the moment unfold.
Just Engaged Photos in the Tulsa Arts District
Once the initial excitement settled down, Tristin and Cobe stepped outside with me for a few portraits around the Tulsa Arts District.
This is one of the reasons I love photographing proposals in downtown Tulsa. You can have an intimate proposal in one location and then walk outside to completely change the feel of the photographs.
We took advantage of the downtown streets, buildings, and little corners around the Arts District for their first official photos as an engaged couple.
And honestly, the minutes immediately following a proposal are some of my favorite to photograph.
There is this completely different energy because there’s nothing left to anticipate. The secret is out. The nerves are gone. And suddenly you have two people looking at each other thinking, we’re engaged.
Candid Engagement Photography in Downtown Tulsa
My photography has always been centered around a combination of beautiful portraits and the candid moments happening in between.
I want you to have the photograph where you both look incredible, but I also want the laugh immediately afterward. The way you look at each other when you think I’m not taking the photo. The movement. The tiny details. All of the things that make the photographs actually feel like you.
Tristin and Cobe gave me so much of that during their Tulsa engagement portraits.
We kept things simple and let them enjoy those first few moments together. No complicated posing or trying to turn the evening into something it wasn’t - just two people who had gotten engaged minutes earlier wandering around downtown Tulsa together.
Congratulations, Tristin + Cobe
Tristin and Cobe, congratulations on your engagement!
Thank you for letting me be there for such a meaningful moment and for trusting me to photograph everything from the surprise at The Canopy in Tulsa to your first portraits together in the Tulsa Arts District.
These are the moments I hope never feel ordinary.
